BLA designed nearly three miles of roadway widening and reconstruction along both IL 53 and IL 56 in the Villages of Downers Grove and Glen Ellyn on behalf of IDOT. The project included adding a third travel lane in each direction with a barrier median, traffic signal modernization and complete roadway reconstruction. The south leg of IL 53 was realigned to alleviate roadway flooding issues by relocating the roadway outside the floodplain. Extensive coordination was required with USACOE, Forest Preserve District of DuPage County and the Morton Arboretum. Structural design included several noise walls, 11 box culverts, bridge deck replacement and a new pedestrian bridge over the East Branch DuPage River.
